How to Organize Image Order in Client Galleries

Images in your PhotoBiz Client Galleries are sorted by file name. The PhotoBiz file system reads file names in strict alpha-numeric order. This means the order of your uploaded files depends on how they are named.

For example, if your files are named 1.jpg, 2.jpg, 3.jpg, the database will sort them as follows:
1.jpg, 10.jpg, 11.jpg, … 2.jpg, 20.jpg, 21.jpg … 3.jpg, 30.jpg, 31.jpg

To avoid this, you should rename your files so they all use the same number of characters.

STEP ONE

Decide how many characters you need in your file names, based on how many images you are uploading.

  • If you have up to 500 images, use 3 characters:
    001.jpg, 002.jpg, 003.jpg … 010.jpg, 011.jpg … 499.jpg, 500.jpg

  • If you have up to 1,000 images, use 4 characters:
    0001.jpg, 0002.jpg, 0003.jpg … 0100.jpg, 0101.jpg … 0999.jpg, 1000.jpg

STEP TWO

Batch rename your files before uploading. This will ensure they display in the correct order in your Client Galleries.

You can batch rename your images using tools like:

Batch Renaming Your Files with Adobe Lightroom

Batch Renaming Your Files with Adobe Bridge

STEP THREE

Upload your renamed files to your Client Galleries Event.

  • To ensure the upload order is preserved, click the Add Files button instead of dragging and dropping.

FINAL STEP

Once uploaded, you can still re-order images by dragging and dropping inside your gallery or using the re-sort images option if needed.

Make sure all your files in the batch you are uploading are numbered in this manner. If your file names are 001, 002, 003, 004, 05, 006, and so on, the 05 file will be uploaded as 049, 05, 050, 051 instead of in the 5th spot.
